Gumtree
Following a number of national product recalls and safety alerts issued by Australian regulators, Gumtree does not allow decorative craft sand, coloured sand, sensory sand, or similar products to be listed on the platform.
These recalls were issued after testing identified asbestos in a number of decorative and coloured sand products sold in Australia. Asbestos is a prohibited hazardous substance in Australia and may pose serious health risks if disturbed or inhaled.
Affected products included a range of coloured decorative and sensory sand products supplied and sold nationally between 2020 and 2025. Australian regulators have continued to issue warnings, recalls, and disposal guidance in relation to these products.
As a result, Gumtree prohibits listings for:

decorative craft sand,

coloured sand,
-
sensory sand,
-
sand art products,
-
and similar sand-based craft or play products.
Sellers are responsible for ensuring that products listed on Gumtree comply with all applicable Australian product safety laws and are not subject to a recall, ban, or safety warning.
If you have previously sold decorative or coloured sand products through Gumtree and later become aware that the product may be affected by a recall or safety warning, you should take appropriate action immediately. This includes contacting any buyers where possible to alert them to the recall and directing them to official safety information and disposal guidance.

Gumtree may remove listings identified as prohibited, recalled, or unsafe in accordance with our policies and applicable laws.
